Notes from the GMVA meeting of July 17th, 2006
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Changes and additions were made to the GMVA committees.
At the meeting last night we added a couple of new committees
and appointed some new members including people who are
not currently elected to the GMVA board. It was a wonderful
show of community spirit. Special thanks to those non-members
who volunteered: Jim Upham who has volunteered to be the
community liaison for the Glen Mill Noise wall, Nick Ransford
who will be working to reach out to the apartment dwellers
and the shopping center, and Dan Avalos who is going to
be working on the Wal-Mart issue. All three have indicated
they would like to fill the vacancy we have on the board.
We will be contacting law enforcement, other authorities
and the WCA about the traffic problems on Maple Branch.
Tom Richardson, whose dog was recently killed on the street,
is also asking the WCA for help. If this is an issue that
concerns you, join him at the WCA meeting tentatively
scheduled for Wednesday, July 26 at 7pm in the Community
Services Building, 2201 Lake Front Circle.
Dana Denton, Pat Goodpastor and others from the GMVA will
be hosting cake and drinks at the National Night Out party
being held on August 1, 5-8PM at Sawmill Park. It will
be a free swim day and hot dogs and other goodies will
be served. Take the kids out as a family, avoid cleaning
up, save money, and make some new friends.
Tom Campbell from MUD 36 says The Woodlands water supply
should be fine even in an emergency. Gasoline and diesel
pumps serve as backup for delivery.
The WCA is considering changing community election dates
to coincide with local elections in May.
The Woodlands Academy will soon open registration for
its fall session. This training sponsored by The Community
Associations of the Woodlands is a wonderful way to learn
about the community. It is a basic training ground for
anyone who wants to become involved.
The GMVA Web Site Saves You Money
A couple of months ago we put information on the Web site
on how to protest your property appraisal. We have had feedback
from two people who did protest their valuations. One had
the property value lowered over $20,000, the other $52,000!
Yard of the Month Winners
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Grogan’s Mill Village Association congratulates homeowners
Jim & Debbie Tawse of Timberjack Place on having the Village’s
July “Yard of the Month”. The Tawse family has lived in
Grogan’s Mill since 1988 and has spent many years cultivating
the perfect landscaping for their home. Begonias and pansies
are the current flowering plants, but Debbie said they try
to keep the yard updated with seasonal flowers throughout
the year. In addition to the sign from GMVA proclaiming
their home the “Yard of the Month”, the Tawses also received
a gift certificate from the retailer or restaurant of their
choice in the Grogan’s Mill Village Center.
Do you think your home or the home of a neighbor should
be considered for this honor? View the photos of this
month’s winning yard on our Web site. There is also a
link where you are able to e-mail your nominations to
our webmaster.
