| Village
Association Actions and Activities
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The newly elected GMVA Board took office at
the March meeting. Welcomed to the Association
Board were new Area Representatives Matt Beasley,
Bill Sargent and Lilly Weiss. The new Board's
first order of business was the election of the
2009/2010 Officers: Deborah Sargeant, President;
Dana Denton, Vice President; Pat Goodpastor,
Secretary; Sally Johnson, Treasurer.
On March 7th the GMVA had its annual planning
meeting at which it decides on its priorities,
budgets and committee assignments. We decided
to hold off on making discretionary expenses until
we have a better idea of future financing. The
agenda and minutes for this meeting are shown
on the Web site minutes page under " March
retreat".
At the regular March meeting, the GMVA Board thanked
Bruce Cunningham, long-time President of our Village
Association, and gratefully acknowledged all the significant
projects and issues he had initiated and tirelessly
worked on over the past years. Bruce will be
remaining on the GMVA as an active participant......and
we couldn't handle all that we do without
him! Great job, Bruce.
Jim Upham, the GMVA representative from Glen Mill
has been working to have a path installed along North
Deerfoot to enable the children to get to Lamar without having
to walk in the street. He would like to have the path
placed on the south side (inbound entrance into Glen
Mill) but the county is resisting this and wants to
put it on the north side. It you have thoughts
on this please let Jim know via jim@gmva.org.
At the April GMVA meeting on April 20,
Keith Weaver, Manager of the Community Revitalization
Program will be making a presentation on how the program
has changed and can be used by residents.
| Spring
Season of the Farmer's Market
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 The
Spring Farmer's Market at the Grogan's Mill
Village Center opened on March 21st to record-breaking
crowds. New vendors this Spring include Family
Beef (grass-fed beef and organic eggs) and Rain Song
Farms (chemical-free fresh vegetables); plus many
of our previous vendors are returning with their fresh
vegetables and fruits, meats, soy candles, organic
dog treats, orchids, goat soaps, organic breads and
bakery items, and much more. Come join us every
Saturday morning from 8 AM to 12 Noon, rain or shine.
The Farmer's Market is fast becoming a weekly
"habit" for those wanting the freshest in
produce, prepared foods and baked goods as well as
 unique personal
care and gift items. It's a great chance
to connect with your neighbors, too!
Look for our new signs to lead you to the market!

| House
Bill 2726 Filed by Representative Eissler
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GM resident and State Representative Rob Eissler
has introduced House Bill 2726 that amends the law
on how The Woodlands Township can operate in the
future. He has agreed to attend a GMVA meeting
to explain this and he will certainly be asked about
his pending legislation to eliminate the
TAKS tests in the schools. We will let
you know the date and hope you will come to the
meeting to find out how your future is being shaped.
Crime in the Community
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A few emails have been circulating discussing
reported situations in The Woodlands which have
caused concern. One involved a pickup truck
that appeared to be cruising the Glen Trace neighborhood
of Alden's Bridge. This situation was investigated
and a report has been issued by the Sheriff and
Community Association showing that while parts of
the story were true there was no real reason to
be concerned. The report is
posted on the GMVA Web site.
This prompted us to review recent crime
statistics compiled by the Sheriff and Constables.
Their data shows that GM has a low crime
rate. Our incidence of serious crimes
is similar to or lower than the rest of
The Woodlands. We have approximately
14,000 residents.
In February 2009 we had one violent crime
a sexual assault -1, the felony crimes included
burglary of habitation - 1, burglary
of vehicle -5, forgery/fraud - 4, narcotics
felony -1. No murders, kidnappings
or auto thefts. If you are interested
in seeing the details Grogan's Mill
is WZ1 in the crime
reports.

| Franklin
Palmer and the GMVA Honored
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The GMVA is particularly proud of our own Franklin Palmer
for being named the WCA's 2008 RDRC Volunteer of
the Year Award. Franklin works tirelessly on the
Residential Design and Review Committee for the benefit
of all the Grogan's Mill residents.
At the same WCA Annual Meeting, the Grogan's Mill
Village Association was honored as the 2008 Neighborhood
Service Volunteer of the Year. GMVA was nominated
for our participation in all the various outreach events
that affect our Grogan's Mill residents, such as
National Night Out, Good-Neighbor Days, and the Farmer's
Market.
This is the first time that a Village Association has
been selected as a whole unit for this award and
we thank our friends at the WCA and the CATW, especially
our Village Liaison, Anne Spaulding, for this wonderful
honor. |
Randalls Store Director
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 The
Randalls store in the shopping center has a new
store director Ron Minin (pictured). He had
been the store's director a few years ago and
recently has been in Panther Creek. He has opened
up the aisles and made a number of other changes.
Stop by and introduce yourself to him.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The GMVA 2009 Yard of the Month program kicked off in
April. Once again, we'll circulate to different
areas of our Village to find a homeowner who has planted
and tends to a beautiful yard. We will announce
our monthly winners on the Web site and in this newsletter.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Celebrate Earth Day with The Woodlands GREEN. The
Woodlands Earth Day Festival is Saturday,
April 18 - 10 A.M. to 3 P.M. at The Woodlands

solutions, earth-friendly products, conservation tips
and the diversity of nature. Traditional offerings
include the Buy Recycled Boutique, family entertainment
and an Ecology Carnival with free activities

The Village Associations have been challenged
to have residents pledge to use (as often as possible) the
reusable shopping bags.....the Village with the
most pledges will be awarded $500 for their student
scholarship fund. The Grogan's Mill Village
Association is asking Grogan's Mill
residents to please link to the site below
and fill out the brief form. It doesn't
cost anything and it's almost painless!
If you have more than one email address (one for
each spouse, for instance), please sign up under
both names. Also, if you know of other Grogan's
Mill residents that you can forward this to, that
would be great.....thanks so much for you help.
